Psalm 27

One thing we ask of the LORD, that we will seek after as Centennial Church that we may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of our life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to meditate in his temple.

Lord, amidst the bumps, bruises, and business of life, may we not forget to ask and seek for this one thing first.

Lord, to behold your beauty and meditate on your perfections is why we were born, why the universe was born, why Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners.

Father, everything else we run into in this world is dim and trivial by comparison.

So, Lord we pray this morning that we would, with the feeling and fervor you deserve, pray verse 4

We pray LORD that we would feel the confidence of verse 1: That you are our light and salvation — whom shall we fear?

Though we see invading armies nearby, though wars rage on, though enemies around us are breathing violent threats, that because of the work of Christ, we can have certainty that we are yours and you are ours.

And, LORD, what could possibly be better than being your people and you being our God?

See what love you have for us that we should be called your children, and that is, by your grace, what we are.

Indeed, we have been adopted as your dearly loved children.

What’s better than spending every day with dad?

Father, as we consider these things, I pray you’d impress upon us the two-way nature of relationships.

That you pursue us and we are invited to pursue you in return.

Lord, may we be like David who responds to the invitation to seek your face. And may you not hide your face from us, but as the blessing goes may you make your face shine on us.

And until you do that, LORD, help us to wait patiently knowing, because of the confidence we have in Christ, that those who wait for you will not be put to shame and we will behold your face in the land of the living.

Father, we pray for our global partners and missionaries around the world who are zealous to make that news known among the nations.

We pray for their various requests and needs. We pray that you would protect them and their families from enemies physical and spiritual.

And Father I pray over us as Centennial Church — that we would not be content to simply be a gathered family of brothers and sisters keeping these things to ourselves, but that it would be our endless quest to invite more and more people into this family you’ve brought us into.

Make your glory known among the nations, LORD. And give us the grace the behold your glory day after day in your Word and in your World.

We pray this in the name of Jesus.

And all God’s people said:

Amen.
