Psalm 38

John Chamberlain   -

August 23, 2026 Heavenly Father, Son and Holy Spirit, thank you for this psalm of David where he demonstrates the freedom to pour out his heart before you. Although he understands the consequences of what he should face because of his sinful behavior, he pleads that you hold back your righteous wrath against him. Clearly David is not looking to blame anyone but himself for the sinful actions he has taken. We see the crushing guilt he feels and the physical pain he experiences as a result of his poor choices.

Thank you for this psalm that speaks so clearly to us today. Many, if not all, of us here today can relate directly to the heavy burden David was carrying when he made choices that did not honor you. In verse 9, David comes before you in openness knowing that there is nothing that can be hidden from you. Help us Father to have the same transparent approach, realizing we can’t hide anything from you.

May we be encouraged by the confidence David showed in verses 15 and 22. He knew you would be there to answer his prayer and be his Savior. The same is true for us today if we come to you with our guilt and heavy burdens that wear us down. We know because of the cross, Jesus bore the guilt and burden of our sin on Himself. We also know of the true freedom that can be ours if we receive the forgiveness you offer.

Heavenly Father we thank you for the successful musical recording for B and T in SE Asia recently. We also thank you for the time they were able to recharge and rest at the annual retreat  they attended with coworkers in the area. Please continue to be with T as she nears the delivery of their third child any day now. We ask that you would provide her with the rest she needs in anticipation of this exciting event. We also ask you would bring healing to the men and their marriages with people B and T have a chance to work with.

Finally Father, we lift up our elders to you today. We ask that you will provide wisdom to Mark, Greg, Dave, David, Luke, and Steve as they continue to discern your will for the direction of our church. Thank you for their willingness to serve you in leading our church family.

We pray all of this in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit….and all God’s people said………Amen.
