Psalm 37
August 16, 2026 O Lord, we take this moment to be still before You—to remember who You are, who we are, and how safely we are held in Your hand.
You, O Lord, are trustworthy. You are not flustered or worried by the evil in the world—You weep with us, but You can also laugh at the plans of the wicked because You know that their time is brief and their agenda will fail. Your ways will always triumph. You are the perfect Judge, and no injustice will go unseen or unpunished in the end.
But while You are the Judge of the wicked, You are the Savior, Shepherd, and Refuge of Your people. You are our Stronghold in times of trouble. You satisfy our desires with good things. You make our steps firm and uphold us when we stumble. You vindicate us when we trust in You. We spend our days under Your care, and we trust that You hold our eternal inheritance for us until the end.
Forgive us, Lord, for our tendency to do the exact opposite of what this psalm calls us to. We are prone to fret because of evil, to be envious of those who do wrong, and to get angry. We so often do not trust You or delight in You or be still before You. Help us, Father, to remember Your character and Your power, and to rest in that, trusting You and doing good, dwelling in this space and time where You have placed us, and working to cultivate faithfulness. Make us a people who are generous, patient, and wise, who consistently trust and delight in You, unmoved by anything going on in the world around us.
In light of the elections this week, Lord, we want to lift up our country and its leaders, as You call us to do. In Your sovereignty and goodness, we pray that You would bring to position people of integrity and wisdom, that under their leadership we can live peaceful and quiet lives as we follow You. We pray that those in our government, both locally and nationally, will work together, setting aside personal agendas or selfish gain and working toward freedom and justice for all. And we pray that we would be people who contribute to the good of the communities in which You have placed us and, by our words and actions, shine a light that draws people to Yourself.
We ask all this in the name of Jesus Your Son, and all God’s people said, Amen.
