Psalm 44

Mark Anderson   -

November 2, 2025 Our Heavenly Father,
we remember the stories of how You fed Your people in the wilderness,
how You led them to a land flowing with milk and honey.
You took a people who often complained and rebelled,
and You taught them Your ways,
You shaped them in holiness,
and made them into a nation that flourished under Your care.

You did all this — not because of their goodness or generosity —
but because You delighted in them.
You showed Yourself to be a God like no other:
compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger,
overflowing with steadfast love and faithfulness.

But Lord… in the messiness of our lives,
that is not always how we experience You.
Sometimes You feel far away.
We feel as forgotten as an infant without parents.

Our work can feel like a treadmill,
the reward always out of reach.
We give our best and still fall behind —
missing deadlines, turning in what feels unfinished.
And when that happens,
it’s easy for us to lose heart,
to see our struggles as too heavy to bear,
and to turn our loyalty away from You.

We are confused, Lord.
We believed that in Christ we have a forever friend —
one who welcomes us,
rather than turning us away.

So let our cries come before You, O Lord.
Hear our pleas.
Deliver us according to Your word.
Don’t be silent.
Step into our adversity.
Be with us in the middle of it,
and bring us Your comfort.

Your word says that Jesus stands at Your right hand,
interceding for us.
Show us mercy in our weakness.

From our small congregation,
we ask for healing for those recovering from surgery,
and strength for those battling sickness.
We lift up families facing hard decisions —
especially when those decisions affect loved ones
who cannot fully speak for themselves.

These burdens drain us, Lord.
They leave us weary and unsure.
So meet us — right there —
in the depths of our unrest.

Redeem our time,
our strength,
and our hearts —
not because we deserve it,
but because of Your steadfast love.

If only we could see
how You bear our griefs
and carry our sorrows.

Give us life according to Your word.

We pray these things in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
