Psalm 36
September 21, 2025 Father, Son, Holy Spirit,
We celebrate that you have revealed yourself and your will in vast depth and wisdom you’ve given us in the Bible. We take comfort in learning that so many if not all of our good and bad situations are not new or unique to us. Your word, over and over, directs us as Christians in how to respond to wicked and evil in our world. When we are discouraged and start to think evil is winning over good, Your word, revealed in this Psalm, reminds us that evildoers will fall, they are thrust down and unable to rise. We are encouraged.
This Psalm is no stranger to evil. The wicked person hears evil thoughts from another and instead of rejecting it, they dwell on it, they plot trouble, and they act. Conversely, the righteous take refuge in your wings and feast in your house, drink from the river of your delights, and find the fountain of life in God alone. The righteous does not find the fountain of life in money, or health, or their own status, or the numerous other items that moth and rust destroy. Lord guide us, as we earnestly strive to reject evil and cling to good. May we search your Word in our times of trouble. May your words of truth be in our hearts to help us reject when transgression speaks to us and entices us.
We grieve the calamity that we hear every week. Discouragement wants to destroy. Lord, show us how to speak truth and hope to our friends and neighbors who mostly hear transgressions and calamity from various sources.
Lord we thank you that you have sustained our church through wonderful and difficult times. We are in awe of the collective wisdom of scripture, and the collective experience of the saints in this room. May we lay our heavy burdens down and take up the yoke that you give us that is light. May we carry one another’s burdens and care and love one another through our study of the Bible, prayer together, and activities together that encourage one another.
We pray for our Global Partners. As the go back to school help them connect with other families and help them grow in knowledge, emotional maturity, and physical health. We lift their health up to you as she continues to deal with rheumatoid arthritis and now also has Hashimoto disease. Guide her and sustain her with these challenges.
May our minds and hearts be turned toward your Word now.
Amen.
