Psalm 80
September 20, 2026 O Lord our shepherd. You led Abraham out from the land of the Chaldeans, you led Joseph and eventually his father and brothers to safety in Egypt. You led Moses out of the land of Midian to be a part of your deliverance. You led your people out from the land and slavery of Pharoah to the Promised Land flowing with milk and honey. You through the decree of Cyrus led your people back to the Promised Land after exile. And you merciful God have led those who call on your name out of darkness and into the light of your grace. You oh God have delivered your people from death and an eternity apart from you. For this we praise your glorious name.
O God our vinedresser. We thank you for drawing us in. For bringing us into the family of God and for nourishing us through the vine Jesus our Lord. Thank you for the work of Christ and your Holy Spirit giving us life.
Sometimes it feels as though the walls of the vineyard have crumbled. People harm and take advantage of us. Our deliverer, will you let this continue? When you discipline us, O gracious God how long will you let them last. Forgive us oh Lord for any unrighteousness found within us. Surely even discipline is only a fraction of the fiery trials we face. There is an enemy at work in the world to harm your vineyard. When O Lord, will you hear our prayers and come to our aide. Surely God you hear your children always… come to our help. Free us from the trials we face in all their forms whether physical, emotional, or spiritual. Come to our aide oh God. You have fed us with tears at times. But Lord of hosts, surely our tears are not forgotten. As it says in Psalm 56, “You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?” You have seen them and know them oh God, and we place our trust in you, help us to continue to trust you through everything we face, and sanctify us by your Spirit.
Father, right now we take a minute to lift up the S’s grandsons, P and M, and ask that you would help them to be safely born at the right time. We lift up C as she continues her treatment and recovery. We also lift up all of our global partners and ask that you would be with them to meet each of their needs, give them health and strength, protect them physically from any harm, and protect them from the weight of ministry. We again lift up P and S, please continue to comfort them in this painful time. Lord these are only some of the many needs of people within our family and community. Do your sovereign work as we lift up everyone in our family and those within our community with needs of various kinds. As enemies ravage the beautiful vineyard you planted come to our salvation. Let your face shine that we may be saved.
Lord as our shepherd and vinedresser we trust in your tender care. We lift all these things to you trusting in your sovereign goodness. Your good will be done. It is in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our savior and Lord we pray. All God’s people said… Amen.
