Psalm 40

Jennifer Kvamme   -

October 5, 2025 Father, thank You for the reminders in Your Word of all that You have done for us. You lifted us out of the slop and despair of our sin when we had no way out. You gave us a firm place to stand: on the truth of Your Word, on the security of Your gospel. You became a Rock we could trust. You put praise in our mouths. Truly, Lord, many are the wonders You have done, things You planned for us that we could not have planned for ourselves. No one compares with you.

We confess, though, that our trust, our thanks, and our praise are not as constant as we want them to be, certainly not as constant as You deserve. Like David in this psalm, we can be overwhelmed by our troubles. We can despair over our sins, patterns we promised not to slip back into and then did anyway. As we remember our failings and our needs this morning, Lord, we bring them to You, remembering also that Your mercy and faithfulness are great. You don’t treat us as our sins deserve. You are our help and deliverer.

We pray for those in our midst this morning who may need special deliverance—whether from a financial situation they don’t see a way out of, from an ongoing medical concern, from mental health struggles, from a broken relationship that is causing pain. We pray that You show Yourself to be our help, our Rock. May those of us who long for Your saving help see it clearly in the coming weeks and be led to praise You in a whole new way.

We also pray for those in our lives and in our communities who have never known Your love or never heard Your story. We pray that, like David, we would not conceal Your good news but speak freely of You. Give us boldness, wisdom, and increased opportunities to share with those around us. Please, God, do the work that only You can do to prepare hearts. We pray that our communities would see revival—that Your church would grow and Your message would spread and that we would represent You well. Thank You for giving us the privilege of being Your ambassadors.

We ask all of this boldly in the name of Jesus, and all God’s people said, Amen.
