Psalm 27

August 3, 2025 Father, Son, Holy Spirit,

It is good to gather together in this house of worship this morning. It is good to be in your presence. It is good to surrounded and encouraged here.

We have an enemy that continuously tries to steal our security, steal our peace, and steal our joy. Thank you Father for the peace and security that you provide and that fills our heart. But we are quickly reminded of our enemy, Satan who seeks to steal and destroy. Psalm 27 dives deep into this subject and gives us numerous prayers to steer our hearts in the right direction. The direction that leads to you.

Verse 1 addresses fear, verse 3 addresses security, verse 5 addresses shelter, verse 10 care and acceptance, and verse 14 courage. When King David feels fear he remembers the Lord is my stronghold. When the military mobilizes against him, his is confident.

Verse 4 guides our heart to right desires. Lord guide our hearts to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of our life. This is not future tense, but this prayer is present tense. Direct our gaze from beautiful created things to the creator of everything beautiful.

We lift up our families with new babies to you. We ask that you protect their health and grow their immune system in these early months of their life. We pray for our parents of babies and young children with the tireless list of things to do that successfully tire out the parents. In the chaos of parenting, give us shelter in a tent, and lift us up on a rock/mountain where we are protected from attack.

We continue to pray for KJ. Thank you for the doctors, nurses, and hospitals, with the technology and wisdom that have aided her so far, and we continue to pray for her blood pressure and migraines. Give her rest, and strengthen their family.

We pray for the family and friends of Carolyn Banta who mourn. Your sermon on the mount tells us we are blessed for mourning, for they will be comforted. We remember the brevity of this life and we are comforted in the promise of eternal life with you. Our hearts yearn and ache for those who will not have eternal life with you. Overwhelm our hearts with the desire to share the good news of eternal life with those who don’t have it.

We pray for Pastor David’s sermon this morning to encourage us and transform us into your likeness.

Amen
