Psalm 80

Dear Heavenly Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

We praise you today for having the ability to save us.  No one or nothing else can boast of this power.  We learn in our psalm today that in all of life’s difficulties, the answer can be found in turning to You. By coming to You in complete dependence, we can trust you will surely save us.

The challenge is are we really convinced that You will intersect in our lives to save us. Satan’s desire is to disrupt the peace and contentment we can have by following You. He wants to bring chaos and anxiety to our lives.  He feeds us the lie that You are distant and don’t really care what happens to us.  That couldn’t be further from the truth. You cared so much that You sent Jesus to earth to save us from our sin!  We need to really believe that You care about us and what is happening in our day to day lives.  Revive our hearts so everything we do will revolve around you and bring glory to your name.

In this advent week the emphasis is on peace. May we start to experience complete peace by turning the troubles and trials we face over to You.  We are also instructed to pray for the peace of Jerusalem in Psalm 122.  This is especially true today with the war they are fighting right now. We pray for your hand of protection to watch over them and keep them safe. Please bring peace to that region so Israel doesn’t always have to be afraid of enemies wanting to completely destroy their nation. Jesus, we know that we can ask this in confidence because Isaiah instructed us that you are our Mighty God and our Prince of Peace.

We come before you on behalf of our brother A, who is in need of peace at this time.  Please make a way for him and his academic advocates to find a professor that will allow him to finish his coursework and earn his degree.  We also ask that you will help Andrew find a better internet provider, so there will be fewer obstacles in communication as he moves into this final stretch.

Jesus, thank you for stepping into our world 2000 years ago so that you could show us what our lives may look like when we are focused on following You.  The calm assurance you brought to the lives of your disciples is available to us today. Help us to clear away some of the distractions this season in order to focus more on You.

We ask these things in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and all God’s people said…Amen.
