Psalm 79

Heavenly Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

We are grateful for the living word you have given us in the bible.  Though the inspired words were written many years ago, we find it relevant for where we are at today.  In our passage today, the psalmist cries out repeatedly for you to bring about your justice.  And he is not bashful about wanting you to make it severe against those who have mocked you.

If we are honest, how many of us have wondered the same questions?  How long are you going to wait to administer justice against people that want nothing to do with you?  We need not look very far to see people who do not respect and honor you as the Creator of everything.  We cry out in our day and wonder how long are you going to put up with this rebellion?

At the same time, the psalmist reminds us we are all in desperate need of your mercy.  We are sinners just like the rest of the world.  As we come to you and ask for forgiveness, we pray that you would be glorified and that your name would be lifted high when you grant that forgiveness.  May those around us notice that we are living lives in complete dependence on you. We pray our hope in you will allow us to have open doors to share of the love you have for us.

We are thankful for the safe arrival of B, T and B to San Francisco last month. We are also thankful for the birth of their second son, G L last Wednesday. Please bless the time they have to spend with T’s family in California.  We pray that their team members S and H back in Southeast Asia will be able to continue to make disciples through the power of the Holy Spirit.  We also ask that you would provide an apartment and a reliable vehicle so they we be able to carry out the ministry.  As B and T continue to mentor them from the states, we pray the communication will go smoothly.

Finally Father, as we head into the fall season, we know from experience this can be a time when calendars quickly become filled up. Help us to not lose sight of some of the lessons we learned when we had to dial back activities due to Covid.  Help us to prioritize the time we spend in reading your word and in prayer.  We are thankful for all of the ways you meet us where we are at and allow us to grow to know you better.

For it’s in the name of the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we pray these things.

And all God’s people said………Amen.
