Psalm 97

Pray with me. Father, Son, Holy Spirit. We rejoice in knowing that you reign over all creation. This scripture boasts extreme confidence that the Lord God is presently reigning and all gladly submit to Him.

We wrestle with the tension of the already and the not yet condition of our worship on Earth today. Scripture is true, You, oh God reign over all. And yet your current reign patiently endures objects of wrath, and destruction. Our hearts churn over the evil we experienced earlier this week in Texas. We do not rejoice when evil has taken lives. We look to blame someone, or something. We ask you hard questions about why. We mourn with those who are mourning.

On this Memorial Day weekend, we remember those who have sacrificed to protect us. Many of us have friends or family members that have served. We see war around the world, and yet we are quite blessed to not experience the same terror that many are experiencing right now in other countries. Thank you for those who have gone before us and dedicated their lives to protecting our freedom and liberties.

We need these reminders in scripture that you, oh Lord, reign. The mountains melt like wax before you. Fire burns up your adversaries. Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart. We turn our hearts to you and seek the joy and peace that only you can provide. Lord we want to see your glory. We are bombarded with media that tries to steal your glory and drive us to despair. Your word does not lead us to despair, it leads us to hope, it restores our confidence, it leads us to rejoice.

We celebrate with the Pehoski’s this morning as we recognize Lee’s graduation from high school. Please guide Lee into this next chapter and season in life. May your good news and presence and love abound.

We thank you God for bringing Pastor Dan and Beth into our lives for the past three years. We thank you for their service and love for Centennial. Please guide them into their next church, and we hope they can enjoy a shorter commute. Protect their health, and give them energy to love their family members well and give them good advice. Also protect their hope in the difficult situations that they encounter.

We thank you for bringing David and Abby to Centennial and pray for the transitions that will take place. Thank you for their great experience at Trinity Church, and help them to enjoy the last few weeks there. We pray you would guide them in their transition to Centennial and we pray that we as a congregation would receive them well. Prepare and soften our hearts and minds for the transition that we will experience.

We remember that you, oh Lord, reign. We rejoice will all creation in the already, and complete fulfillment of that truth.

Amen.
