Psalm 20

Heavenly Father, Son and Holy Spirit

We praise you for the assurance that you indeed will answer us when we call out to you.  We are grateful to be gathered in your presence today, to worship you in the same way the people of Israel worshipped you in the days of King David. We are reminded in this psalm that David was able to call on you when he was facing difficult times.  He had confidence in the fact that you would come to his aid because he fully trusted in you.

We confess Father that at times we look to other “chariots and horses” to put our trust in.  Whether it is the security of our job, the joy of our family, the stability of the financial markets or the effectiveness of medicine to treat illness.  None of these come anywhere close to being able to trust in the goodness of your name.  Show us by the power of the Holy Spirit how to make the desires of our hearts to be in direct alignment with the desires of your heart.  Help us to rise up and stand firm in our culture, which continues to move far away from you.  May we shine the light of your truth into the darkness around us, because we are living in the power of your name and your name alone!

We thank you for the way in which you have blessed our global partner, Catherine’s time, in allowing her to bring completion to so many projects.  We also thank you for the sense of relief she feels by having a schedule that will be more balanced in working through the many projects she is still  responsible for.  We ask that you would grant success for a new workshop she is launching by providing the right personnel who truly have a desire to reach people in displaced countries with the good news of Jesus.

Father we also want to bring before you the Pastoral Search Team as they put in countless hours on behalf of our church searching for a new pastor.  We pray that you would put a hedge of protection around them and their families as they move into phase two of the process.  Please guide them by the Holy Spirit to communicate clearly who we are as a congregation, and our desire to be used by you to share the good news of the Gospel to those around us.

We also pray for Pastor Dan and Beth as they start to consider your leading in the next steps of ministry.  We are grateful for the way in which you led them to Centennial Church. The deep friendships which have been formed in the time they have been here have truly been a gift from you.

Please bless them for the love they have for you and the love they have shown to us!

We pray this in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit….and all God’s people said………Amen.
